Picture-based boards
Children choose from clear pictures laid out in a grid, so meaning comes before literacy. Tapping a tile adds the word to the sentence strip along the top.
Mau does one thing well: it helps a child turn what they mean into a sentence and have it spoken. Everything below serves that, and nothing gets in its way.
Children choose from clear pictures laid out in a grid, so meaning comes before literacy. Tapping a tile adds the word to the sentence strip along the top.
Words are grouped by the Fitzgerald Key: actions in green, things in orange, people in yellow, and so on. The colours teach sentence structure without a single rule to memorise.
One press reads the whole sentence aloud, giving the child a voice that the room can hear and respond to.
Built for English, Bemba, Nyanja and Tonga, so a child communicates in the language spoken at home rather than one imported from somewhere else.
After installing, Mau works with no internet and no mobile data. Communication should never depend on signal.
Mau runs on the everyday Android and iOS devices families already have, so there is no costly special hardware to buy.
Uncluttered screens, gentle motion and Zambian chitenge-inspired detail kept to the quiet edges, so the board never overwhelms.
Starting with a handful of core words, the board can widen as a child's confidence and vocabulary grow.
